SENIOR DESIGNER

Job Description

Chused & Co. is seeking a Senior Designer to lead residential projects from concept through installation. This role sits at the intersection of interior design and interior architecture.You think fluently in both plan and elevation, understand how things are built, and have the technical skill to draw them precisely. You have a cultivated point of view and an exceptional eye for proportion, material, and detail. You communicate clearly, collaborate easily, and take full ownership of a project from start to finish. The Senior Designer will work closely with the Principal and a Junior Designer. The ideal candidate has a highly developed eye, strong creative instincts, and a design sensibility that aligns with the layered, collected, and distinctive aesthetic of Chused & Co.

Responsibilities

Design & technical execution

  • Lead high-end residential projects through every phase — concept, schematic design, design development, documentation, procurement, and installation

  • Own the drawing set. Produce plans, RCPs, elevations, sections, and construction documentation

  • Draw and detail custom millwork, cabinetry, and built-ins

  • Translate the Principal's concepts into buildable solutions

  • Source materials, finishes, hardware, lighting, and furnishings, and maintain the specifications behind them

Project management

  • Set and hold scope, budgets, and schedules from kickoff through punch list

  • Serve as day-to-day point of contact for architects, contractors, consultants, fabricators, and vendors

  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and samples against design intent

  • Run site meetings, document conditions, and communicate design intent to clients and trades

  • Oversee procurement in Studio Designer

  • Coordinate installation logistics and deliveries, and lead the install and final styling on site

Collaboration

  • Work directly with the Principal on creative direction, detailing, and material development

  • Delegate drafting, sourcing, and presentation work to a junior designer, and review it before it leaves the studio

  • Mentor the junior designer on drawing standards, construction knowledge, and vendor relationships

Requirements

  • 7+ years in high-end residential interior design or interior architecture

  • Portfolio of built work you led from concept through installation

  • Advanced AutoCAD; clean, unsupervised construction documentation

  • Proficient in SketchUp, Adobe, and Studio Designer

  • Deep knowledge of residential construction, millwork, and detailing

  • Experience coordinating architects, builders, and vendors on custom work

  • Able to manage multiple projects without losing the details
